Memory has always been fundamental to human learning and achievement. In the modern era, memory evolved from being simply a human ability into a structured competitive discipline.
From the first World Memory Championship in London to the development of organised Memory Sport in India, the sport has grown into an international competitive discipline.
In 1991, Tony Buzan and Raymond Keene established the World Memory Championships and introduced Memory Sport as a structured competitive mind sport.
The first World Memory Championship was held in London, bringing competitors together to test their ability to memorise and accurately recall different forms of information under defined competition conditions.
The competition established a framework of memory disciplines that became the foundation for organised competitive Memory Sport internationally.

What began in London gradually developed into an international competitive discipline.
Memory Sport provides competitors with structured challenges involving different forms of information, requiring them to memorise unfamiliar material and reproduce it accurately.
Athletes develop specialised techniques to improve their concentration, speed, accuracy, recall and mental organisation, allowing them to compete at progressively higher levels.
Today, Memory Sport brings together competitors from different countries and generations, with international championships providing a platform for athletes to test their abilities on the world stage.
Squadron Leader Jayasimha Ravirala has been promoting Memory Sport in India for more than two decades.
In 2009, he began conducting the Indian Memory Championships, establishing a structured platform for memory athletes in India to train, compete and demonstrate their abilities.
Over the years, his sustained efforts have helped promote awareness of Memory Sport, provide competitive opportunities and encourage the development of memory athletes across the country.
