Representing India In China · Story 03

A memorable experience at the 32nd World Memory Championship 2023

After everything it had taken to reach China, the Indian team had finally arrived in Sanya.

The journey that began with an accident, medical uncertainty, cancelled flights, visa complications and unexpected travel routes had brought G. Anumitha, Dr. P. Srinivas Kumar and G. Siva Narayana to the 32nd World Memory Championship.

Now it was time to experience the championship.

Representing India

G. Anumitha participated in the World Memory Championship as the Indian participant.

Dr. P. Srinivas Kumar attended as a Member of the Indian Memory Sports Council and Trainer to G. Anumitha.

G. Siva Narayana accompanied G. Anumitha throughout the journey.

After all the challenges involved in simply reaching China, being present at the World Championship itself was a memorable achievement.

A World Of Memory Sports

The championship brought together memory athletes and representatives from different countries.

For Dr. P. Srinivas Kumar, the experience extended beyond watching G. Anumitha compete.

It provided an opportunity to observe the championship closely, interact with leaders from the international memory sports community and experience the World Championship environment.

Among the memorable moments was the opportunity to sit alongside Raymond Keene, Co-founder of the World Memory Sports Council.

Dr. P. Srinivas Kumar also had the opportunity to meet Marek Kasperski, President of the World Memory Sports Council, along with presidents of memory sports councils from other countries.

These interactions created valuable international connections and made the championship an even more memorable experience.

Celebrating World Champions

Another memorable part of the championship was the opportunity to award medals to world champions.

Standing on the same international stage where the world's best memory athletes were being recognised was a moment to remember.

For the Indian team, the championship was not simply about competition.

It was about representing India, experiencing the world of competitive memory at the highest level and being part of an international community united by memory sport.

The Meaning Of The Journey

Looking back at everything that had happened before reaching Sanya, two thoughts captured the experience.

“Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.”

Joshua J. Marine

The journey to China had certainly been filled with challenges.

There was also another thought that seemed to fit the experience:

“Before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way.”

Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

Perhaps the challenges had prepared them for something they could not yet see.

Because while the Indian team believed their China journey was nearing its end, something completely unexpected was about to happen.

The next day, an invitation would arrive that would change the entire journey.
