Beyond The Championship: A Memorable Outing At Ramoji Film City

Participants and the championship team at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad, the day after the 2024 championship

After months of preparation, participants and the championship team came together for a day of relaxation, celebration and shared memories

A national championship is the culmination of months of preparation.

For the participants, it means months of learning, practising, memorising and preparing themselves to compete.

For the organisers, trainers and volunteers, it means months of planning, coordination, training, logistics and countless hours behind the scenes to make the championship possible.

But when the final results are announced and the championship comes to an end, the journey does not necessarily have to stop there.

After the successful completion of the 15th Indian National Open Memory Championship 2024, we decided to do something different.

Instead of everyone simply returning home the next day, we brought the participants and the championship team together for a day of relaxation and celebration at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad.

From Competition To Celebration

The day after the championship gave everyone an opportunity to put aside the competition for a while.

There were no scores to calculate.

No recall tests.

No timers.

No pressure.

Just a day to relax, explore, laugh and enjoy each other's company.

For the athletes, it was a chance to take a well-deserved break after months of preparation.

For the organisers and volunteers, it was equally special. After spending months working towards the championship, everyone finally had the opportunity to step away from their responsibilities and enjoy the moment together.

Bringing Everyone Together

A championship naturally creates different groups.

Participants focus on their competitions. Trainers work with athletes. Organisers manage different responsibilities. Volunteers handle the many details that keep the event running.

During the championship, everyone is connected by a common purpose.

But an outing creates a different kind of connection.

Away from the competition venue, people had the opportunity to interact more freely, get to know one another and share experiences beyond Memory Sport.

It was a chance for participants, trainers, organisers, volunteers and supporters to spend time together as one community.

Rather than simply completing the event and going their separate ways, we wanted everyone to have one more shared experience.

A Well-Deserved Break After Months Of Preparation

For the athletes, reaching the national championship was itself the result of preparation and commitment.

They had spent months developing their memory skills and preparing for the disciplines they would face. The championship day demanded concentration, discipline and mental effort.

So, the day after the event was intentionally different.

It was about rest, recreation and enjoyment.

The organising team needed that break too.

Behind a successful championship are months of planning, coordination and problem-solving. There are countless details to manage — participants, schedules, venue arrangements, volunteers, competition requirements and much more.

Once the championship was successfully completed, the team finally had a chance to breathe.

And we wanted to do that together.

More Than An Event Team

One of the things that makes a championship special is the community that develops around it.

People may initially come together because of Memory Sport, but over time, the relationships can become much more than that.

An outing like this helps strengthen that sense of community.

Instead of everyone simply leaving after the closing ceremony and returning to their respective cities, the team had one more day together — a day without competition, deadlines or responsibilities.

It gave everyone an opportunity to celebrate what we had accomplished together.

A Different Kind Of Memory

Memory Sport is all about creating memories.

But some of the most meaningful memories from a championship may have nothing to do with scores or medals.

They are the conversations between participants.

The laughter shared between friends.

The photographs taken together.

The moments of exploring a new place.

The stories exchanged after an intense day of competition.

The friendships that continue long after the championship is over.

The visit to Ramoji Film City became one of those memories.

Creating Memories Beyond The Medal

Winning a medal is undoubtedly a memorable achievement.

But a championship journey is made up of many moments.

For some, the highlight may be standing on the podium.

For others, it may be successfully completing a difficult discipline.

For someone else, it may be meeting another memory athlete for the first time.

And for many, it may simply be the friendships and experiences created along the way.

Our visit to Ramoji Film City became part of that larger story.

It reminded us that Memory Sport is not only about competition. It is also about people, experiences, friendships and memories that stay with us long after the competition ends.

Celebrating What We Achieved Together

The outing was also our way of recognising the collective effort behind the 15th Indian National Open Memory Championship.

A championship does not belong only to those who stand on the podium.

It belongs to every participant who prepared and competed, every trainer who guided an athlete, every volunteer who contributed, every organiser who worked behind the scenes and every supporter who helped make the event possible.

The outing gave us an opportunity to celebrate that collective effort.

Everyone had played a part. Everyone deserved a moment to relax. And everyone deserved to celebrate together.

The Journey Continues

The 15th Indian National Open Memory Championship may have concluded with the final results and celebrations, but the experience did not end there.

The following day at Ramoji Film City gave the participants, trainers, organisers and volunteers one more opportunity to be together — away from the competition, the schedules and the responsibilities.

Some returned to training. Some returned to their schools and professions. Some began preparing for future championships. And everyone returned home carrying memories from an experience that went beyond the competition itself.

For the IMSA team, the outing was a reminder of something important:

When people work together for months towards a common goal, they deserve the opportunity to celebrate together.

The championship brought everyone together through competition.

The outing brought everyone together through celebration.

And sometimes, the memories created after the competition are just as special as those created during it.

Because Memory Sport is not only about remembering numbers, cards or words.

It is also about creating memories that are worth remembering.
